Energy Minister Peter Amewu

Executive Director of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers-Ghana (COPEC), Duncan Amoah, has called on Oil Marketing Companies, (OMCs) nationwide to ensure that Ghanaians get the best grade of fuel to protect their cars and the environment.

This follows Ghana Oil Company’s (GOIL) introduction of a higher-grade petrol, RON 95, fuel type unto the market. Mr. Amoah gave the advice after the Chamber visited selected GOIL fuel stations to confirm that the station is serving Ghanaians with RON 95.

“When GOIL notified us that they are moving to the Octane 95, we were happy, but we needed to find out if they are going to charge more as other stations have done over the period. We came to verify the numbers and nothing has changed. This means that something is being done for the Ghanaian public. We are happy, but we will not be fully happy until every OMC in the country also sees the need to give their consumers the best grade of fuel for money.”

“Fuel prices are already high, but if Ghanaians are paying what they are paying now and they will get something that will protect their cars, distance, their engines and the environment, then we say thumbs up to GOIL for the initiative,” he added.

Starting 17th February, RON 95 is available country-wide at all of the company’s over 400 service stations at the same price of GHS5.45 per liter. The high-grade petrol, Research Octane Number (RON 95) is an upgrade from the RON 91 and seeks to boost the performance of all engines and keep them clean of carbon deposits. It also offers consumers better fuel economy and better mileage for their vehicles at the same price.

Head of Fuels Marketing at GOIL, Marcus Deo Dake, assured consumers that it will continue to have their interest at heart and ensure they get value for money for every fuel bought at all its service stations.

He further noted that this game-changing development will prevent consumers from paying a high price for quality petrol grade specification and ensure that they experience less vibration and noise from their engines.
