Ing. Dr. Kwasi Abeasi, former Board Chairperson of the GIPC

Eighteen top personalities have been inducted into the Corporate Ghana Hall of Fame in Accra last Friday at an impressive ceremony. The new inductees include chairpersons of Boards of Directors, retired Chief Executives and founders of companies in Ghana.

The event was on the theme: “Accelerating Economic Activities in Ghana: The Role of the Corporate Community.” Speaking before the induction ceremony, Mr Kwesi Abeasi, the President of Corporate Ghana Hall of Fame and a former Board Chairperson, said nobody has really appreciated the role that the boards play in the corporate affairs of the country.

“So The Business Executive came out with this brilliant idea of recognizing the performance of by the boards. When something goes wrong in a company, the first person has his head cut off is the chairman. Unfortunately in most African countries, people who are chosen for the chairmanship are not necessarily the best qualified for the job,” Mr Abeasi said.

He said the chairmanship was either reward for the ruling party or reward for going to the right school or for being a good friend. “So we thought it was about time to reward the hard working Chief Executives. This being the fourth edition of the reward, I will say that this  batch of awardee who are going to inducted is special and also lucky one because after being in existence for three years, we intend to step back a bit and examine the structure and operation activities of the Hall of Fame and remodel it,” he said.

He said the members of the Hall of Fame already had some interesting activities arranged for them by The Business Executive such as discussions on governance strategies in the country. “This also brings into focus the need for deliberate training and organization,” he added.

Corporate Ghana Hall of Fame is an assembly of selected current and former Chairpersons of Boards of Directors and Top CEOs in Ghana’s private and public business sectors who are actively in management positions, retired or are nearing retirement, and whose accomplishments deserve to be recognized and celebrated for the future generations to honor and emulate them.

Thus these well-experienced members of the Ghanaian corporate community serve as role models. The Hall of Famers are expected to ultimately formulate a binding constitution for the group.

The Business Executive Limited (TBE), in collaboration with some partners such as the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), founded Corporate Ghana Hall of Fame as a forum for members to contribute individually and collectively to the growth of corporate Ghana by sharing their knowledge, skills and experience with current full-fledged and budding CEOs.

The purpose of the Corporate Hall of Fame is to recognize and celebrate the professional accomplishments of the above-mentioned Chairpersons and top-level CEOs and to provide a forum for them to contribute collectively to the growth and development of corporate Ghana by providing their knowledge, skills, expertise and experience to both successors at the helm of the corporate sector and public policy makers/implementers.

The contributions of the members of the Hall of Fame will be through collective formal suggestions, recommendations, perspectives and insights into good corporate governance, corporate strategy, legal compliance, financing structures, etc. These will be presented to business and professional associations in Ghana and the Government of Ghana for study, analysis, improvement and incorporation into public policy for subsequent implementation.

The Business Executive Ltd. organizes and hosts several awards in Ghana, other African countries and in the international arena. In Ghana, TBE organizes its flagship Ghana Industry CEOs Awards (Most Respected CEOs Awards) annually.

In addition, TBE periodically holds the Business Executive Excellence Awards, Feminine Ghana Achievement Awards, Ghana Development Awards, Environment Health and Safety Awards, Ghana Philanthropy Awards, Technology Impact Awards, Trade and Commerce Awards, Ghana Transport Awards, and Ghana Southern Hemisphere Awards.

TBE is also organizing the Nigeria Most Respected CEOs Awards and Liberia Most Respected CEOs Awards. At the international level, TBE is organizing the Africa Global Trade and Investment Awards and Africa Industry CEO Awards.
