Top business men and women and public sector officials from some African countries received awards at Africa’s Most Respected CEOs Awards which took place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on 17th July, 2021.

CEOs and senior public officers from Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Benin, Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa and Tanzania were honored with awards in various categories such as   agro-processing, automobile franchise sales, ICT, tourism, leisure and recreation, private security services, health, insurance, telecommunications, media, pharmaceuticals,  aviation, among others.

The awards were held on the theme: ‘The Role of the African Corporate Pace-setters in Maximizing the Opportunities Offered by the AfCFTA.’ The awards were organized by The Business Executive Ltd., an events and media company based in Accra, Ghana.

The Africa’s Most Respected CEOs Awards are an awards scheme which seeks to identify and publicly recognize the CEOs in Africa who are the most respected by the continent’s public on a sector by sector basis; and the most publicly respected CEOs in each country. The awardees will first be selected by public voting for nominees in each category. CEOs of both privately owned and publicly owned corporations/institutions are eligible.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Mr. Surrender Singh Kandhari, the chairman of Al Dobowi Group, and African Chamber for Trade United Arab Emirates, said the awards are aimed at bringing together business chieftains, public sector officials and investors in Africa who deserve recognition for accomplishments in their respective areas of endeavor in the COVID-challenged emerging African corporate ecosystem.

Mr. Singh Kandhari said the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), which is headquartered in Accra, Ghana’s capital, has great opportunities for African Governments and the corporate operators on the continent. He said one enormous opportunity that AfCFTA, the largest global free trade area by participating countries, was that it would transform the continent’s economic prospects by creating a single big market with a population 1.2 billion; and facilitate cross-border trade and cooperation. He added that the trade area has a combined GDP of $3.4 trillion.

“It is clear that the AfCFTA is a game changer for Africa. With the opportunities available to business men and women as well as public sector officials, what are you doing to take advantage of these prospects? I believe when corporate and public sector chiefs adopt good corporate governance practices and implement them effectively, they will put you in good stead to maximize the opportunities offered by the AfCFTA,” he said.
