There was chaos in Ghana’s Parliament after a row ensued between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Majority Group and Rt. Hon. Alban S. K. Bagbin, the Speaker when he allowed a voice vote of ‘No’ against a request by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for a withdrawal of the proposed 1.75% Electronic Levy in the 2022 budget statement.

Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Deputy Majority Leader, disagreed with the Speaker that the ‘No’ carried the vote, and called for vote by division. But after the Speaker directed the Marshals to clear the lobby for the process to start, Minority Chief Whip Mohammed-Muntaka Mubarak asked Rt. Hon. Bagbin to let ministers of state who are not Members of Parliament (MPs) to exit the Chamber before the vote by division can occur.

 

and therefore needed to leave the Chamber.
