Consulting services for feasibility studies to construct a seaport in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region is expected to begin in April 2020, Mr Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, Minister for Transport has announced in Accra.
He said the Government through the Ministry of Transport was going through the necessary processes to develop the Keta Port Project.
Mr Asiamah, answering questions in Parliament on the project said as of February 10, 2020, a number of activities were concluded or were underway at various stages for the project. Mr Richard Quashigah, MP for Keta, asked the Minister what plans the Government had to build a sea port in the Keta Municipality.
The Minister said a suitable site in Kedzi within the Keta Municipality was identified to locate the Port of Keta, and “this site takes a good developmental and commercial use of a pre-engineered system of parts of the Keta Lagoon.”
He said the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has issued an Executive Instrument to declare the area a port zone, and also appointed a Keta Port Director to coordinate all the activities of the Keta Port Development.
Also, Expression of Interest was advertised and seven of the 19 respondent applications were shortlisted to submit technical and financial proposals for feasibility studies.
Mr Asiamah said technical evaluation on the project was completed on February 7, 2020 with other schedules being vigorously worked at.
