Ghana’s partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) has received renewed momentum following a high-level meeting between the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and AfDB Country Manager, Ms. Eyerusalem Fasika, in Accra on Thursday, 6th November 2025.

The meeting underscored a shared vision to strengthen cooperation in key sectors pivotal to Ghana’s long-term growth, namely; infrastructure, energy, agriculture, agro-processing, and education. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing inclusive and sustainable development that directly improves the lives of citizens.

Ms. Fasika reiterated AfDB’s continued support for Ghana’s economic agenda, describing the country as a vital partner in West Africa’s growth story. “The Bank remains committed to investing in programmes that promote social progress, create jobs, and enhance resilience across critical sectors,” she said. “Ghana’s strides in infrastructure and human capital development align with AfDB’s mission to build a prosperous and sustainable continent.”

Hon. Ablakwa, for his part, commended AfDB’s longstanding contribution to Ghana’s development, noting that several of the country’s transformative projects—ranging from road networks to agricultural value chains bear the imprint of the Bank’s assistance. He stressed that deepening strategic partnerships remains key to accelerating Ghana’s progress toward its national development goals.

“The collaboration between Ghana and AfDB continues to exemplify what effective multilateral engagement can achieve,” the Minister remarked. “Our shared objective is to ensure that every investment translates into real opportunities for our people and advances our broader vision of inclusive growth.”

The discussions also explored new avenues of cooperation, particularly in climate-resilient agriculture, renewable energy, and technical education. Both sides emphasised the need for initiatives that not only drive economic transformation but also empower communities and safeguard the environment.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of mutual commitment to sustaining the strong Ghana–AfDB partnership. As Ghana seeks to consolidate economic recovery and expand access to opportunities, the collaboration with the African Development Bank is expected to play a vital role in bridging development gaps and supporting national priorities.

With this renewed understanding, Ghana and the AfDB look set to advance a partnership built on shared aspirations, one that promises tangible benefits for citizens and strengthens the nation’s path toward sustainable progress.
