Ghana will host the Diaspora Summit 2025 from 19–20 December 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), bringing together global Ghanaian and Pan-African leaders, policymakers, private-sector actors and development partners to reposition the diaspora as a strategic partner in national development. Organisers say the summit seeks to move beyond the narrow remit of remittances and migration policy, and instead institutionalise diaspora engagement across governance, investment, innovation, cultural diplomacy and reparative justice. Programme highlights advertised on the summit portal include plenaries with heads of state, investment roundtables, sectoral dialogues and sessions designed to match diaspora capital and skills with priority national projects.
The “17th region” framing signals an ambition to treat the diaspora as an integrated administrative and strategic constituency; a formal partner rather than an external benefactor. Officials describe the summit as an opportunity to design long-term mechanisms for diaspora voting, investment facilitation, dual citizenship pathways and collaborative diaspora-led development projects. Analysts say the summit comes at a politically opportune moment: several African states are renewing outreach to their global citizens through incentive packages, citizenship pathways and investment windows.
