Ghana’s philanthropy landscape reached a defining moment on Friday, 30 October 2025, as the 4th Edition of the Ghana Philanthropy Conference & Awards (GPA 2025) unfolded at the luxurious La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra. The prestigious ceremony, curated by The Business Executive Group, reaffirmed the nation’s growing recognition of humanitarian leadership and corporate citizenship under the compelling theme, Philanthropy; Advancing Human Dignity.”

With an atmosphere marked by elegance and purpose, the event drew an eminent assemblage of diplomats, captains of industry, civil society leaders and celebrated philanthropists. Under the poised direction of Master of Ceremonies George Agyeman, the night evolved into a remarkable tribute to individuals and institutions whose compassionate interventions are shaping Ghana’s socio-economic fabric.
Among the most distinguished honourees was Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell, the revered Catholic priest behind the Lepers Aid Committee of Ghana. His Lifetime Contribution Award paid homage to decades of tireless service to the marginalised.

His recognition set the tone for other towering figures, including former Communications and Trade Minister Dr Ekow Spio-Garbrah; eminent labour consultant Mr Austin Gamey, CEO of the Gamey and Gamey Group; and development strategist Dr Leslie Casely-Hayford, Executive Director of Associates for Change. Their collective achievements reflected a shared commitment to public welfare, capacity-building, and inclusive growth.

Diplomatic presence was notably underscored by the Ambassador of Poland to Ghana, His Excellency Kofi Enchil, who was similarly honoured for his role in advancing development cooperation.

The awards for individual excellence spotlighted critical areas of national concern. Mrs Lydia Abena Manu-Adofo, CEO of Willingway Recovery & Rehabilitation Centre, received a Lifetime Contribution Award for her transformative influence in mental health advocacy and reform. Social justice champion Mr Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, Founder of the Crime Check Foundation, was celebrated as an Outstanding Human Rights Justice Advocate for his pathfinding support for vulnerable prisoners and justice reform. Amb. Dr Mrs Joelene Anom Clottey earned the Touching Lives Through Philanthropy honour, while Madam Joyce Larbi’s Voice of Hope in Autism Advocacy award highlighted the urgent need for greater awareness and support for neurodiverse communities.

Institutional laurels reflected the power of collective effort. The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Ghana Limited was distinguished for its grassroots educational investment, a testament to private-sector engagement in advancing literacy and opportunity. Savana Signatures’ recognition as Best in Digital Inclusion for Livelihood Advancement showcased the growing role of technology in empowering underserved groups. Meanwhile, RISE-Ghana’s accolade as Outstanding Local NGO in Rights-Based Health and Governance Initiatives underscored the organisation’s sustained work in supporting equitable governance and community health systems.

Beyond the glitter of awards, GPA 2025 reinforced the magnitude and reach of philanthropic action in Ghana. Since its inception in 2011, the awards have engaged over 120,000 participants and featured representation from 60 countries, signalling the event’s evolution into a global convening point for development actors. This year’s edition further strengthened its reputation as a formidable platform for forging new partnerships, fostering cross-sector collaboration and amplifying solutions aimed at preserving human dignity.

By evening’s end, one message resonated clearly: philanthropy in Ghana is not merely an act of charity but a strategic, long-term pursuit of social transformation. The honourees of GPA 2025 exemplified that impact-driven leadership whether from religious institutions, civil society, business or diplomacy remains essential to building inclusive, resilient and compassionate communities. The conference not only celebrated exceptional service but reaffirmed a national commitment to placing humanity at the heart of development.
