Prices at the pumps on Thursday, November 4, 2021, saw an increment of 1 pesewa, from the previous GHS6.80p to GHS6.90p. Passengers and transport operators are unhappy because the government recently approved the removal of the Price Stabilization and Recovery Levies (PRSL) on petrol, diesel, and LPG for two months.
The directive should have started in November but, consumers are rather seeing an upward adjustment of fuel prices in Ghana.
Reacting to the development on 3FM’s Sunrise on Friday hosted by Alfred Ocansey, the General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Godfred Abulbire, warned that transport operators would have no option but to increase transport fares on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, if the government does not sit with them and deliberate on the issue.
“We have taken a certain position. We think we have to take a different approach so we have submitted a proposal to the Transport Minister since last month and by Tuesday if we don’t hear anything, we shall increase our fares”.
Mr. Abulbire added “by the margin of the fuel price adjustment, we know the margin of increasing our fares”.
