Dr. Nortey Omaboe, e Executive Chairman of GCNET

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has asked the Ghana Community Network Services Limited (GCNet) to resume operations at the Tema port on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 in order to restore the disrupted Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS).

In a letter sighted by Starrfm.com.gh, GRA stated that discussions with GCNet have been occasioned by the challenges being faced by agents processing their custom documents on the new Integrated Customs Management System by UNIPASS.

Earlier last week policy Think Tank IMANI Africa petitioned President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to do the following:

1) Temporarily suspend operations of UNI-PASS and allow GCNET and West Blue to operate for the remainder of the year in order to assure the nation of revenues, most likely GHS10bn given depressed trade activity due to COVID-19.

2) Conduct an independent review of the UNI-PASS system.

3)The Ministry of Trade and Finance should share revenue projections from implementing UNI-PASS with Ghanaians.
