An experienced trade unionist and Human Resource Management practitioners who is aspirant for the position of Deputy General-Secretary in charge of Operations of the Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union (ICU) Ghana has promised to help introduce innovations in the operations of the Union when the new leadership comes into office.
Mr Thomas Assibi Atiah, who is a former Accra Regional Officer of ICU, a member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) and has a Masters degree in Alternative Dispute Resolution, stated that when members of the ICU vote him as Deputy General-Secretary in charge of Operations he will suggest the diversification of the sources of income of the ICU-Ghana to the new leadership, as one of the many innovations he has under his sleeves.
In an interview with The Business Executive in Accra, Mr. Assibi Atiah appealed to the delegates attending the 11th Quadrennial Delegates’ Conference of ICU scheduled for 25th-27th August, 2021 at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) to vote massively for him to bring new changes to the running of the Union.
He said he will strive for the welfare and well-being of the members of ICU-Ghana by establishing cordial relationship between employees and employers. “Sometimes, misunderstanding occurred of perceived differences. We need to know our various rights, roles and responsibilities as workers and employers to avoid conflicts at the workplace. This way we will be able to work together amicably. But sometimes, some employers deliberately violate these rights and that is where union leaders come in and point out the violations,” he said.
Mr. Atiah said as education falls under the direct purview of the Secretary-General responsible for operations, he will embark on a constant and consistent mass education of the members so that they can benefit immensely from the ICU-Ghana. “I will provide transparent, trust-worthy, reliable leadership. I will always be at the beck and call of our beloved members. The members outside of Accra and ask about my unquestionable commitment from the local union leaders. I’m at their service any time, and I therefore need their votes to be able to serve them,” he noted.
