An eminent Ghanaian international lawyer and traditional leader has called for a multi-party consensus to enable the country achieve appreciable socio-economic development through the implementation of a long-term development blueprint.

Speaking at the launch of ‘Vision 2057: Long-term National Development Perspective Framework’ in the Cedi Conference Center at the University of Ghana yesterday, Nana Dr Susubiribi Krobea Asante, the Paramount Chief of Asante Asokore in the Ashanti Region, appealed to all Ghanaians to be involved in the implementation of the framework.

The framework was jointly launched by Nana Dr Asante, a former Chief Justice, Justice Sophia Akuffo, Prof. Yan Baffour, the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), and other very very important personalities (VVIP). The framework was crafted by the NDPC after a series of consultation with key stakeholders.

The document outlines how the country would be in terms of its social, economic and environmental development by 2057 when it celebrates its centenary. The 111-page document has eight chapters delineates the vision, goal, drivers of transformation and targets to be attained in 33 years.

The document will serve as a guide and roadmap for the preparation of manifestos by political parties to ensure that the long-term vision and goals for the development of the country as provided for in the 1992 Constitution.

Asante described the framework as “formidable document” with an “intimidating title,” and asked the political parties not abandon the document and replace it with their manifestoes.

He suggested that the appropriate amendment should be made to the 1992 Constitution to ensure continuity in the implementation of visions and plans for the stable development of Ghana. He said the aim of the newly-launched Vision 2057 is to establish a sound and healthy economy.

The document will among other uses, serve as a guide and reference point for the preparation of manifestos by all political parties to ensure that the long-term vision and goals for the development of the nation captured in the 1992 Constitution are not compromised.
