A local financial institution, Sinapi Aba Savings and Loans, has launched a mentorship programme for women in small and medium enterprises (SME) across the country at a ceremony in Kumasi.
The project, which is being piloted for the next six months, seeks to enhance the business acumen of the women to help sustain and expand their businesses.
The mentorship involves bringing experienced mentors from various established SME businesses to coach, mentor and share best practices with the mentees at their various working locations.
A total of 104 women entrepreneurs have been enrolled to benefit from the project.
They will receive mentorship in trading, manufacturing and school management, agro-processing, as well as service provision, among others.
Launching the project, the Chief Executive Officer of Sinapi Aba Savings and Loans, Mr Anthony Gyasi Fosu, appealed to all stakeholders in the project to take it seriously so it would yield the right impact.
He said after the pilot phase, it would be extended to help many more women entrepreneurs
Mr Fosu said the project was complementary to government’s “Ghana Beyond Aid”, agenda which required the collective effort of the various facets of the nation’s economy.
The Chief Operations Officer of Sinapi Aba Savings and Loans, Mrs Joyce Owusu-Dabo, charged the women entrepreneurs to move from their comfort zones and explore ways of adding value to their services and products.
That, she said, would not only help their businesses to grow but also help improve their income.
Mrs Owusu-Dabo commended the Canadian Government through its agencies; Global Affairs Canada and Opportunity International, Canada, for their support towards the mentorship programme, which, she added, would help reduce poverty among women, especially those in the rural areas.
