The Board of Directors and Staff of the National Investment Bank (NIB) have jointly donated an amount of One Hundred and Eighty-five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢185,000.00) to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund.
This unique gesture forms part of NIB’s contribution to the national program to combat the spread and adverse impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on the country and its citizens.
The COVID-19 National Trust Fund, a public trust was established and inaugurated on 29 March by President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to receive contributions and donations from the public. It is aimed at helping government meet the welfare needs of the vulnerable and needy in the country especially during the partial lockdown in the Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi Metropolitan areas.
Presenting the cheque to the Trustees of the Fund, the Managing Director of NIB, Samuel Sarpong, noted that the donation is to support the government in its COVID-19 containment strategy. Mr. Sarpong added that “the presentation is unique because the amount is from individual contributions by the Board of Directors, Management and staff of the Bank. We believe this will go a long way to help bring some relief to the needy in these very difficult times.” Mr. Sarpong also emphasized that NIB, as a corporate entity, has also contributed to the GH¢10 million COVID-19 Response Fund established by the Ghana Association of Bankers (GAB).
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Fund, its Chairperson, Madam Sophia Akuffo, a former Chief Justice, expressed her profound gratitude to NIB for the donation, saying “I am not the least surprised that NIB is making such a generous donation. NIB is one of the most reliable and trusted indigenous banks in Ghana. My assurance to you is that the money will be used for its intended purpose. On behalf of government and members of the Trustees, we say ‘Thank You.’”
In the company of the MD to do the presentation were the Deputy Managing Director, Tweneboa Kodua Fokuo; President of PMSU, Michael Naah Davies; and P.A. to the MD, Mary Josephine Ofori.
