1st ever Most Respected CEOs in Nigeria Awards to be held in Lagos

The first-ever awards scheme to identify and publicly recognize the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) in Nigeria that are most respected by the country’s public is scheduled to be held later this year, culminating in a gala banquet awards conferment ceremony in Lagos.

While there are several awards schemes that recognize outstanding CEOs in Nigeria, most of these are restricted to one sector of the economy or the other and are decided by an awards jury which is very limited in number. However, the impending Most Respected CEOs in Nigeria awards will recognize the most accomplished CEOs across all the sectors of the economy, as determined by Nigeria’s general public who will vote for their respective choices through SMS.

The awards are being organized by The Business Executive magazine, the only magazine in West Africa which is dedicated to covering news, data and perspectives on socio-economic activities across the sub-region as a whole. The magazine is published by The Business Executive (TBE) Limited which is primarily Nigerian-owned but headquartered in Accra, Ghana, where it organized the Most Respected CEOs in Ghana award scheme in both 2018 and 2019.

The Business Executive magazine is circulated and read throughout corporate West Africa by virtue its unique collaboration with the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FEWACCI), and through the respective national chambers.

Explains Paulette Kporo, Publisher and CEO of TBE, “the Most Respected CEOs Awards cut across a wide range of delineated sectors and all the States of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The deserving CEOs will be identified by the public through voting nationwide, and will subsequently be honoured at a special awards conferment ceremony – a strictly by invitation, red carpet gala evening event which will attract the winning CEOs a lot of the rest of the leadership of corporate Nigeria, business regulators, promoter and facilitators, top tier government executives, the international business and diplomatic communities, civil society leaders and the international media.” According to the organizers, the awards will be conferred across about 50 delineated sectors of economic activity based on public voting by SMS for nominees to be put forward by the public through a nomination process that allows both self and third-party nominations.

Nominations will be authenticated by a seasoned and dedicated team of research consultants and the CEOs who are verified as eligible will be put on an electronic ballot box and voted for through a process overseen by a leading indigenous audit firm which will compile the results and determine the winners in each sector of the Nigerian economy under the various categories. Alongside this process, a similar one will be conducted to determine the most respected CEOs in each State of the Federation to ensure nationwide inclusiveness.

Finally, special awards for outstanding achievement will be conferred on some selected Nigerians who have truly excelled in various areas of endeavour. These awards will be decided by an Awards Selection Jury established by the organizers, and consisting of nine eminent persons.

Corporate Nigeria in general, and potential award winners in particular, have a good reason to look forward to this novel awards scheme which will not only recognize their exemplary capacities and performance in the most credible way so far – they’re being voted far rather than simply selected by a handful of selectors – but will also encourage them to step up even further and will establish themselves as role models for the rest of corporate Nigeria to emulate with regard to corporate leadership and management.

Awardees will have both their own professional reputation as CEOs and the corporate reputations of their respective companies which they lead enhanced. That will be invaluable with regard to their relationship with their various stakeholders such as customers, shareholders, employees, regulators, partners, suppliers, financiers and business support service providers.
