The Acting President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has commissioned the friendship road between Ghana and China at Kpone, near Tema.
The purpose of the road is to strengthen the international relations between Ghanaians and the Chinese country. The road was constructed by Sunasogli PowerLlimited in partnership with the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly. The Ghanaian populace together with some of the Chinese signed on a whiteboard to show unity and love between these countries.
Some dignitaries present were Paramount Chief of Asogli and the president of the national house of chiefs, his royal majesty Togbe Afede XIV, his excellency Chinese ambassador to Ghana, H.E Shi Ting Wang., regional minister for the Greater Accra Region, Ismael Ashitey, deputy minister for energy, Mohammed Amin Adam, deputy minister for roads and highways, Anthony Karbo, incoming member of parliament for Kpone Katamanso Hopeson Adorye, Municipal Chief Executive, Katamanso Municipal Assembly, Solomon Tetteh Appiah and some chiefs of the Kpone constituency.
The Accra-Tema motor road is the first concrete road(19km) in Ghana. It was built almost 55years ago, in November, 1965. The vice president said various Chinese companies in recent years are setting up factories locally in Ghana to provide employment opportunities to Ghanaians seeking to add value to Ghanaians resources as is in line with the president’s vision of Ghana beyond aid. This will help us limit the exporting of our raw materials oversea.
Currently, the Company has also awarded scholarships to graduate students to pursue their masters and PhD in top universities in China, he said. The Sunasogli Power Limited has also constructed an Astroturf football pitch in the municipality to encourage sports activities in the municipality.
Additionally, the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways said the government of the New Patriotic Party has played a key role in adding to our national grid in terms of power generation.
He made it known that the enclave is an industrial area especially an area of heavy vehicles therefore the Government is putting measures in place in order to secure our roads. He said the concrete road is an agenda of the government.
